The Wash is the most important estuary in the UK for Grey Plover, with Wetland Bird Survey counts of 8000+ in autumn. A barrage/port development would be a disaster. Tidal barrages and UK #waders. Is there a comprehensive list of current proposals? Are there blogs to share - similar to this one about the Wash? wadertales.wordpress.com/2019/08/15/six… Image 👇 from "International Shorebird Rescue": wadertales.wordpress.com/2017/12/20/int… #shorebirds #ornithology

Some days you feel like you are making more of a positive impact from breeding wader than others, even though it is the main focus of what I do. Today is one of those. Working on the Hoo Peninsula in Kent. From one to the other in under an hour.

The proposal for a tidal barrage across the Wash is back again! Conservation organisations are going to spend time fighting this daft idea - time/money which would be much better spent on projects that improve life for birds. Why this matters: wadertales.wordpress.com/2019/08/15/six… #waders

The proposal for a tidal barrage across the Wash would have impacts on Turnstone that fly from Greenland and Canada. Just one of many #waders that rely on this amazing estuary. More here: wadertales.wordpress.com/2019/08/15/six… #shorebirds #ornithology

More wetland being created. It has been one of the busiest years for this machine we have had. Busy is good for business but also good for wetlands as it means a lot more important wildlife habitat created. #quickcosteffectivewetlands RSPB England

A great blog on why Wash Wader RG color flag and mark waders on the the Internationally important Wash estuary and why it adds so much to our knowledge, helps protect this important estuary as well as the surrounding land that the birds are so reliant on

More great wader habitat being installed by Adam from #RSPBELM at Dingle Marshes as part of a wider strategy to deliver more habitat for breeding waders across Suffolk. #footdrains #wetlands #water

North Devon coast. Never been here before so thought I would pop over as I am working near Exeter this week then along the south coast with site visits for a few weeks after that. Friends, you have been warned, you might get an unexpected visitor…..

“Massive costs, massive damage, massive risks.” I'm grateful to Professor David Hill CBE who shares his thoughts on the idea for a Wash barrage in our latest Wild Ken hill blog. Safe to say we are in agreement. 👇 wildkenhill.co.uk/guest-blog-dav…

Extremely lucky to be on leave for 2 weeks in Delaware Bay. This is the largest spawning area in the world for Horseshoe Crabs. Each May, they come to the beaches to spawn. At the same time, 1000s of shorebirds - stopover on their annual migration from South America to the Arctic

Been a busy few days on the spoil spreader front, Cheshire, WWT Martin Mere, RSPB Fairburn Ings and RSPB St Aidan’s St Aidan’s Nosterfield Nature Reserve Now at RSPB Saltholme . Mix of habitat creation for waders, waterfowl, and marginal wetland plants. Hasn’t all gone smoothly but we are still moving forward.
