This short report gives a nice summary of the UK situation - including NDNS data on #iodine status. It highlights the risk of low iodine intake in women. For info on diet - use British Dietetic Association fact sheet bda.uk.com/foodfacts/Iodi…
Great to see #iodine featured in this British Dietetic Association blog. Thanks @julie_abayomi for mentioning our research showing that consumers of milk-alternative drinks (not fortified with iodine) had a low iodine status (cambridge.org/core/journals/…).
Great to see #iodine featured by British Dietetic Association during #DW2021
🌱Plant-based milks are not nutritionally the same as cows milk🐄 Cows milk contains: ⬆️Higher kcal, protein, sat fat, carbs, B2, B12, iodine ⬇️Lower fibre & free sugars than plant-based alternatives *Nutrient composition only Great analysis Miriam Clegg sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
So good to see this published today. A great team effort by Oliver Witard Smeuninx Benoit @LaurySllm Mariana Dineva, PhD and others not on Twitter!
🥛New research shows that only 28% of plant-based milk alternatives available in the UK supermarkets are fortified with #iodine. Great work Katie Nicol & Dr Sarah Bath ! Read more in the link below ⬇️ pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35373723/
Katie Nicol, University of Surrey, presenting at Nutrition Society Congress 2024 ➡️ Reducing or removing dairy from the diet can reduce iodine intake from 85% to 35%. Iodine contributes to normal cognitive function. Cow’s milk is considered an excellent source of #iodine 🧠 🥛 #NSCongress24
