#Saltaire Advent Calendar at 53 George St where Benjamin Binns, tailor & family lived & worked in 1861. Wife Ann was a sister of Martha Brown, the #Brontës servant for 22yrs. The Binns moved to Victoria Rd & Martha lived there with their 12 children & marital rows for 9yrs.

#Saltaire Advent Calendar at 1 Myrtle Place. Long before it was a doctor’s surgery Abraham Broadbent’s family left Hirst Mill to live here in 1881. Abe worked in the mill & went to the #TitusSalt Art School. A talented sculptor with works in London, South Africa & Cartwright Hall

The #Saltaire Advent Calendar on #XmasEve at 5 Mawson St. Named after William Mawson, an architect of the mill & the tiny homes. With Henry Lockwood he also designed Bradford Wool Exchange & City Hall, which were painted for the postcard market & sent all over the world.

The Bradford Whit Walk was the world’s oldest amateur walking race. The route passed #Shipley Market Place where crowds sang on Whit Monday. For #Saltaire mill workers, Agnes & Edith Dewhirst, the day off was enjoyed with a tipple on Shipley Glen #BankHoliday
