Calling all Cavalcantians! Just six days left to enjoy the gorgeous new Locarno Film Festival-sponsored restoration of one of Alberto's rarest works, A Real Woman (Mulher de Verdade, 1954), entirely free, no strings attached - just like Hugo in Dead of Night. locarnofestival.ch/media/vod/mulh…

Helluva Radio 4 claim just now that 'intermissions used to be forced on cinemas and audiences by the need to change reels of film'. Have I been getting it wrong, and Lawrence of Arabia is just two ginormous reels that took a small army of projectionists 15 minutes to swap round?

#SaveThePCC Some of you may have read about the situation regarding our new landlord wishing to add a new redevelopment break clause, with only 6 months notice to our lease. For now, we're simply asking you all to share & sign the petition below; you.38degrees.org.uk/p/princecharle…

Recently had the honour of recording new commentary for my all-time favourite Chantal Akerman feature, Histoires d'Amérique, and the pleasure of interviewing seven of its actors. Charles Mayer sadly not amongst them, but no doubt this would've been his opinion of my performance:

Elstree recycling, 1930: Ray Milland's purloined photo of Pauline Johnson from The Flying Scotsman ends up near a discreditable shaving kit in Why Sailors Leave Home; a Betty Balfour headshot for Raise the Roof becomes a musician's keepsake in Children of Chance.

Biggest revelation of the year so far, by a long scrawl. Bill Douglas, Ken Russell, Jane Campion and Stanley Kubrick all spotted furiously writing notes in the dark on the backs of their tickets at this one: youtube.com/watch?v=tUwyBE…

Had to hold out thirteen years for this one to be bumped up at Filmhouse from Screen 2 to Screen 1 - but tonight, somehow, it feels like it was worth the wait. (Shame about these newfangled tickets, though.)

Some people are so down on AI, but I for one am thrilled we've finally uncovered the truth about Chico, Gummo, Marxo, Einstein, Stalin and I'm guessing half-tache guy must be Happedto, who really bounced back after dying in infancy.

Just getting on with research for 2025's BFI Southbank main event (whatson.bfi.org.uk/Online/default…) and looks like it's been a while since anyone checked this out at Edinburgh Central. (Many thanks for the prompt return, Miss Knox Thomson - even if you were four years behind the curve.)
