With #COP27 coming up, I’m afraid we have to brace ourselves again for a stream of ‘we need action/funding on climate or else we will have mass migration’ messaging. Even while often done with good intentions, it’s factually incorrect & an irresponsible use of a fear of migration

Important point, that bears repeating: bilateral, especilally US, sanctions are often more critical than UN sanctions. So not quite there yet, even if the recent UNSC resolution on humanitarian exceptions to sanctions is a key breakthrough!

Global public opinion (conducted by ECFR) one year into Russia’s war on Ukraine shows that the west is strongly united but that divisions between the West and other global powers have emerged. Here are a few take-aways from the survey:
