The third speaker is Mareille Kaufman (one of the conference organizers) presents on behalf of herself and Maia Vestad. She will focus on the informationalized body… popular belief that the body is telling us something.

The development of profiles ascribe a legal or investigative context to entire groups. Biometric profiles can live a social life that is no longer under the control of those who create them.

Dr. Kaufman traces a genealogy of crime sciences from Lombroso to contemporary phenotypical profiling based on genetics. Lombroso’s original aim of tying criminality to the body should be invoked in understanding visual profiles as reductive and as having a robust social life.

Mareile is a very engaging speaker. Lambroso's "strange looking people" makes me wonder where blue hair, facial piercing scars and visible tattoos might place one on the criminally visible spectrum 🤔
