Green laser diodes (488/505/515/520nm) don't like cold! Wavelength stops decreasing below a certain temp, instead the forward voltage increases. If you keep pushing current through it, eventually the diode suddenly breaks (overvolt?), even below threshold. What explains this?

Reverse-engineered driver for ZWO ASI662 astronomy camera: git.m-labs.hk/srenblad/asi_u… No blobs, no bloat, and also works on BSD. Hardware is much more cost-effective than typical scientific cameras, and is already used in a few trapped-ion experiments.

Cheap 571nm DPSS laser pointer has a pump around 900nm (varies with temperature like a diode does) and broadband IR emission below 930nm. Visible line is sharp. What laser medium is that?
