If you're going to approach a VA to invite them onto your project, please be upfront from the first message abt what your project is abt, who you want them to play, and if it's paid. It comes across as shady & unconfident if a VA has to continuously ask you for these details

VO Tip: As you read scripts, underline or encircle important phrases, write down pronunciations and instructions, and basically, map out directions for how to read your copy. These marks help you bring your script to life. Do you do this already? How do you annotate your scripts?

Like good looks, a great voice can turn heads. But it only holds attention for a moment. To make your audience really listen, you need more than just a great voice. You need to connect with them and give them a reason to pay attention. And that starts with authenticiy.

No matter what microphone you get, it'll only be as good as the space you put it in. Outside nose leaking in? Dealing with echo and reverb? A new mic won't solve that. Focus on your space first, and you can get a mic (or upgrade your current one) later on.

I need to vent: I stumbled on a scam targeting local (🇵🇭) voice actors earlier today, and it's infuriating, heartbreaking, frustrating, and a ton of other negative -ings. I wrote this thread several weeks ago 'coz of similar feelings, and now I'm right back in that same headspace

I'm probably revealing my age, and definitely revealing one of my biases. But the point holds true: we don't expect to be great at our craft without putting in the effort. We seek coaching and work tirelessly to improve. So when it's time to perform, it looks easy.
