I have changed from being a consultant thoracic surgeon to an ICU Nurse to help with the intense pressures on our ICU now. If like me you are in the NHS but working less to free up space for COVID patients, can I encourage you to #put-in-a-shift in your ICU to help them out !

If this is no time for complacency, why aren't NHS England ensuring the safety of front line workers? There is not enough PPE. The guidelines prioritise rationing of resources, rather than staff and patient safety. This disguises the problem. #notsafe #NHS #PPE richard horton

Why are political leaders afraid of the truth? This is the NHS today: “Colleagues have to attend disciplinary meetings for speaking out. Others have been spoken to and were ‘warned’ informally...I never thought I lived in a country where freedom of speech is discouraged.”

New guidance on PPE has been published. This was a collaborative effort across a range of professional groups, including the Medical Royal Colleges and experts in the field. The guidance is in line with WHO and expert advice. The UK CMOs fully support it. bit.ly/2wc9vGC

Hopefully this evidence will make it into the public inquiry into the deaths of healthcare workers provided with what now transpires as inadequate PPE. “No evidence this is dangerous” trumped “no evidence this is safe” in guidance.
