I am delighted to announce that our project to test first-order (Victor Lamme) & higher-order (hakwan lau πΊπ¦ @hakwan.bsky.social Richard Brown) theories of consciousness by an adversarial collaboration is funded by Templeton World Charity Foundation. Team work with Ned Block megan peters π§ Rachel Denison Chalmers & Brascamp.

Delighted to announce the start of my postdoc at NYU Langone Health with Biyu Jade He. Especially excited for our multi-lab adversarial collaboration testing first-order vs. higher-order theories of consciousness funded by Templeton World Charity Foundation. π₯½π

What is the relationship between #consciousness and the brain? A new project led by Biyu Jade He will use adversarial collaboration to test the HOROR, PRM, and RPT theories of visual consciousness: templetonworldcharity.org/projects-databβ¦ Ned Block megan peters π§ Rachel Denison NYU Langone Health

Our response to Ian Phillips' view on blindsight is now out in Psychological Review (w/ hakwan lau πΊπ¦ @hakwan.bsky.social)! Let's keep the debate going: I'm also currently working on a longer response to defend the orthodox view: blindsight is unconscious vision. psycnet.apa.org/record/2021-40β¦

I'm happy to be starting my postdoc with Biyu Jade He at Neuroscience Institute at NYU Langone Health today! Excited to work on projects examining theories of conscious perception and prediction in the brain π§

We are super excited to put this out into the world with @Conor_A_Walsh and Sharat Ganapati. Itβs the result of a long effort to think about the origins of the urban-biased growth that has been reshaping our politics and society for the last 40 years. A little thread π§΅

How are our perceptual expectations influenced by changing statistics in our uncertain world? Our new paper w Kirsten Rittershofer and Clare Press @clarepress.bsky.social shows that expectations are quickly updated when previously-learned perfect relationships are degraded: sciencedirect.com/science/articlβ¦

Announcing the "Next Frontiers in Consciousness Research" Workshop held at the NIH on June 26-28, 2023! sites.google.com/view/conscious⦠In-person attendance is invitation only, but there are a limited number of slots for trainees to present posters (with an $800 travel stipend each).

Iβve always felt that the creative processes of science and art closely mirror each other. Especially for something as weird and unique as consciousness. Hii Magazine gave me the opportunity to write about the parallels between science and music: tinyurl.com/yhmspxc9

β¨Be sure to check out this piece by the brilliant Lua Koenig for Hii Magazine on the connection between the creative process in art and science! π¨πΌπ©π»βπ¬There may be an interview with yours truly in there, along with links to some great music. π§π»π΅πΈπΉ

Delighted to be in conversation with Lua Koenig Dr Lucy English please join us!

This was a wonderful creative conversation, thank you Lua Koenig

Delighted to report the publication of our new paper with Biyu Jade He in PLOS Biology. In the study, we find that oscillatory and non-oscillatory neural signals likely influence conscious visual perception independently. doi.org/10.1371/journaβ¦

Check out our lab's new paper by the brilliant Lua Koenig published in PLOS Biology yesterday! Spontaneous slow cortical potentials and oscillations both influence conscious perception. In this paper, we show that they do so via independent mechanisms. plos.io/42dxjGH
