Today’s Spotlight is on Dr. Tongzhe Li (Tongzhe Li), an Assistant Professor at the University of Guelph. Tongzhe earned a M.S. from North Carolina A&T State University and then a Ph.D from Washington State University (working with Jill McCluskey Jill McCluskey ).

Global prices of wheat and barley went up 31% over the past year. In Feb, food prices were at record high due to high demand, transportation costs & port disruptions. Volatile natural gas prices sent fertilizer prices soaring. All could lead millions more to face severe hunger.

The food crisis of 2007-08 was triggered by drought and high oil prices. But countries made it worse by restricting exports and increasing imports in panic, which spiked prices for food even more. Result: 40 mill more people fell into hunger. Avoid this in today crises.

I'm alarmed by today's announcement by the Taliban that women must cover their faces in public and leave home only in cases of necessity.   I once again urge the Taliban to keep their promises to Afghan women & girls, and their obligations under international human rights law.
