New research led by scientists from Monash University's Geometric Biology challenges our understanding of how metabolic rate affects population dynamics. bit.ly/3iPsnR3 Lukas Schuster Hayley Cameron School of Biological Sciences, Monash

How does metabolism affect population sizes? In a rare test of the theory Lukas Schuster Hayley Cameron @djm_MEEG @Craig_R_White found unexpectedly populations with moderate metabolic rates supported more individuals than those with lower metabolic rates. cgb.org.au/2021/08/22/doe…

How does an individuals metabolic rate influence the outcome of competitive interactions? Lukas Schuster @djm_MEEG @Craig_R_White used a model species to investigate this in the field. Outcomes were variable and probably relate to resource delivery. cgb.org.au/2021/12/22/win…

We're looking for a full-time #ScienceCommunicator to join our Deakin University team! This full-time position is open to candidates with a science OR communication background. Pls help us find the perfect #scicomm candidate by sharing the link! #Jobs 🔗careers.deakin.edu.au/cw/en/job/5287…

Harnessing plant power to clean up our wastewater 🪴💧 Westernport Water just installed 1800 native wetland plants in their wastewater lagoon. We’ll be monitoring how these floating wetlands improve water quality & reduce greenhouse gas emissions. pisra.com.au/news/plant-pow…

Last week our #TealCarbon team presented at the #FloatingWetlands Forum, discussing ways to enhance wastewater quality and cut emissions. Grateful for the insightful discussions and collaboration with CSIRO, Westernport Water, IWN, Clarity Aquatic, Covey & Victorian Government!💧🌱

Our paper on freshwater wetland restoration is highlighted in Springer Nature! This meta-analysis reveals restored wetlands can become #carbonsinks in 5 yrs, but it takes 141-525 yrs to have a net cooling effect on the planet. It is then a priority to conserve natural wetlands!💡

Can we use #floatingwetlands to clean up wastewater & reduce emissions? Catch Lukas Schuster on ABC radio discuss how wetland vegetation can absorb nutrients from wastewater & potentially lower emissions. 🎙️ABC radio (46:50):abc.net.au/listen/program… 🌿Website:bluecarbonlab.org/floating-wetla…
