Devastating floods in parts of #Spain after year's worth of rain fell in less than 24 hours. The animation below from #MTGI1 clearly shows large thunderstorms with strong lightning activity, causing exceptional rainfall and flash floods between 00:00 UTC yesterday - 10:00 today.

We're saddened to announce the passing of John Morgan, EUMETSAT's founding Director from 1986-1995. John's leadership transformed EUMETSAT from a small team into a fully operational satellite agency, facilitating collaboration among satellite operators globally.

Starting with only three staff members in 1986, John took on every responsibility - from logistics to technical oversight. His kindness and humour left a mark on everyone who worked with him. Our deepest condolences go out to his family. Read more here: bit.ly/3NShRrd

On 1 July, the 108ᵗʰ EUMETSAT Council approved the updated SAF Strategy — a major step to keep the SAF Network agile, innovative, and user-focused. It introduces an Innovation Layer, supports EU activities, and enables open-source licensing for SAF software.
