Great point here that is borne out by reports from the regional health forum where active and public transport infrastructure actually speed up ambulance response times. Emergency vehicles are consistently shown to benefit from public and active transport schemes the world over

Tomorrow is the last National 'Slow Down' Day of the year! 🚗💨 From 7am Fri, Dec 20 to 7am Sat, Dec 21 so take it easy on the roads. Here are 5 reasons why slowing down is a good idea! #roadsafety wheelsforwomen.ie/index.php/5-re…

Way to go Paris! You didn’t get fooled with the failed promise of electric cars and instead chose to fight the problem through #activemobility! Paris is now greener and its citizens more healthier while the city is more liveable especially for kids! Doesn’t this sound like true

Rest points are critical to success of greenways, like this attractive rest point we have on the Ulster Canal Greenway in Monaghan town. Complete with seating, drinking water refill point, trees, with a nice view & tranquil setting along the Ulster Canal. #MoretoMonaghan

Some of these comments 😲 even by Twitter's low standards! Just a reminder: it’s entirely possible to be a motoring journalist and support active travel and the simple idea that every road user deserves to get home safely ...

Storm #Eowyn is being forecast as one of the most intense wind storms to ever hit Ireland. We will have to wait for attribution studies to assess what role #climate change did or didn’t play. By coincidence I have been reading papers on current impacts of AMOC slowdown. 🧵

🚨During Status Red weather warnings on Friday 24th January for #StormÉowyn, there will be NO Intercity, DART or Commuter train services on the Iarnród Éireann network, with significant disruption likely afterwards also. 💨 Updates here and at irishrail.ie/en-ie/news/wea… Transport for Ireland

Motornormativity in action. Everything in this reply is untrue. Car centric culture is exclusionary, particularly for young people, older people, people with disabilities, people with low incomes. Is socially isolating & leads to high economic burden for the exchequer via health

Due to the #StormÉowyn red weather warning issued by Met Éireann, and following NECG advice, Dublin Bus will suspend all services from 4:00am Friday, 24 January, for the duration of the warning. Please check dublinbusnews or dublinbus.ie for updates. Stay safe.

After 12 days of decongestion pricing, NYC saw a 51% drop in people getting hurt from car crashes. But full disclosure, there was a 10,000% spike in hurt feelings on social media. 😢

So despite all the fuss and noise, new data shows that the ULEZ expansion hasn’t hurt high street spending - it’s just helped clean up London’s air 💚 centreforcities.org/blog/ulez-expa…

Every 48 hours someone dies on Irish roads – not because they failed, but because we did. Writing in the Irish Independent today on behalf of our 26,000 Cycling Ireland members and all vulnerable road users. We need to rethink road safety in Ireland. m.independent.ie/opinion/commen…

Someone dies on Irish roads every two days. If the same was happening on Irish Rail, Bus Éireann or Aer Lingus, we’d have a national enquiry, with services suspended until safety could be guaranteed. But on our roads? We’ve somehow learned to live with the carnage. We shouldn’t.

I’m writing in the Irish Examiner today about the importance of language, the need to be very careful in describing incidents of death and injury on our roads. It is not the role of the reporter to assign blame, but it happens every day, perhaps inadvertently. It needs to stop.

Ireland’s share of pedestrian fatalities is nearly double the European average, making Ireland among the continent’s worst for pedestrian safety...Yet the 30km/h debate still revolves around how motorists will cope 🙄 Pat Kenny Newstalk David McCullagh

Geraldine Herbert (@gerherbert1) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Surprised at the animosity toward pedestrians in some of the replies below, complete with the classic dose of victim-blaming. We’re all pedestrians, no matter how we travel - by car, bus, bike - everyone walks somewhere in their day ...

This article by Geraldine Herbert hits the nail on the head Sean Canney TD. We really must act, with a renewed sense of urgency, to protect the lives of our vulnerable road users. The constituents in all of our communities. Our families. Road safety must be above local party politics.🙏🏽
