Today we remember the enslaved men and women who suffered at the hands of the brutal transatlantic slave trade, as well as those who paved the way for its abolition. We must continue to reckon with this legacy and deconstruct the systems that perpetuate racial inequality.

On this Women’s Equality Day, I want to recognize and uplift the incredible women in the 4th District. Today and every day, we celebrate the achievements of women around the world!

Today we feel the weight of the loss of one of our own, Laquan McDonald, who suffered from 16 fatal shots to the body. The loss of his life and the sentencing that followed was a miscarriage of justice and we will continue to fight for criminal justice reform.
