Our first advent calendar fact comes from Liz AD Campbell: Barbary macaques live in snowy areas. To survive tough winters, they huddle with monkeys they have a close relationship with, so monkeys with more “friends” can form larger huddles and are more likely to survive.
New paper on Barbary macaque habitat selection & human activity found monkeys use roads to be fed by people when food availability is low but also when traffic is greatest.
