The Eastern Phoebe is one of the many migratory birds you might observe this weekend. This drab little flycatcher can be recognized by its raspy "fee-bee" call and its tail-wagging habit. Learn more about this species here: abcbirds.org/bird/eastern-p… Video: Eastern Phoebe

Fall migration is starting, and you will see birds on campus that have collided with windows. This is a serious problem for birds – they see trees or sky and don't recognize the architectural cues of windows. Please report any birds you find. #lightsout #birds #migration

Buildings like the West Village Commons at Towson University are especially dangerous for birds, since they see trees and sky in the glass but are unable to recognize the architectural cues of glass. #birds #conservation #nature

Migrating birds depart on time without a calendar and navigate long distances sans smartphone. They fly for days with few—if any—pit stops. If you're wondering how, we tackled some of these common questions. bit.ly/3wNtRCF

Clark Kent was banded as a chick by NJ Fish & Wildlife in 2018. His nest was destroyed by humans in ‘21 and he lost his chicks within hours of birth in ‘22 due to predation, likely feral cats. We must do more as society & agencies to protect this fragile and threatened species.

GBR DAY 2 FACT: Birds can see through glass, and what is reflected on glass, but they cannot see glass itself. Reflections on a window pose a massive threat to birds who collide while trying to reach the reflected image. Keep birds safe by creating a visual barrier! FLAP Canada

The bird at the Los Angeles Dodgers game was a Greater White-Fronted Goose. Bright lights can disorient birds that migrate at night, which this species does. Learn more here: audubon.org/field-guide/bi…

Maybe we're just salty because some people are saying this Greater White-fronted Goose helped the LA Dodgers get a hit (we are Audubon ROCKIES, after all) but this situation bums us out for a different reason. buff.ly/3rUMelG #LightsOutForBirds #RallyGoose

How can we expect birds to recognize human architectural cues? That is not possible, unless we let them know the glass is there with window decals or ultraviolet-coated glass. Reflections appear to show clear flyways with trees and sky, but are actually glass. #birds #lightsout

Our birds need LESS light pollution during migration, not more! This drone ad tonight could disrupt the flight patterns of thousands of birds flying through NYC, leading to collisions with buildings. NYC, we need #LightsOut during migration! Lights Out Coalition gothamist.com/news/500-drone…

🚨ALERT: 500 drones swarming NYC’s skyline tonight could disrupt & interfere with thousands of birds’ flight path during peak migration - leading to building collisions/bird deaths. #LightsOutNYC If you see drones over NYC, report to New York City 311 - they are supposed to be illegal.

For those hitting up the beach this holiday week, please be mindful of our little feathered friends aka western snowy plovers. Stress can impact the outcome of their next breeding season, but the good news is that you can do your part to minimize this: ow.ly/kgUJ50LLzRK #🧵
