Before clocks, there were candle clocks, that when burned, effectively indicated the passage of periods of time especailly indoor & at night. To set an alarm, you pushed a nail into the desired point and the nail would ld fall and clank on the metal holder buff.ly/2GevGQi

What a glow up! 🎀 NASA Webb Telescope gave a new look at two star clusters first captured by Hubble. Originally shown as dusty blue bubbles, Webb highlights the finer inner details, illuminated by starlight. Read more about the before and after: go.nasa.gov/3GsSUT2

Skeuomorphism is when modern objects, real or digital, retain features of previous designs even when they aren't functional. Examples include the very tiny handle on maple syrup bottles, faux buckles on shoes, the floppy disk 'save' icon, or the sound of a shutter on a cell phone

Beauty is obvious. Ugliness requires a lecture. I will say it until you believe it. Don't be swayed by the opinions of the art critic crowd. Trust your eye.

My magnum opus has arrived. Magnum as in 1249 pages, 800 illustrations, most in color, 75 maps, well over a hundred extracts from primary sources, chronologies and lists of key terms. I wrote Volume 1, from the ancient Greeks to the Renaissance, and my oldest friend in academe,

Oh hey there, friends! 👋 On its way to Jupiter, NASA’s Europa Clipper caught a glimpse of Mars and its two moons. The dark circle at the top of the planet is a polar ice cap, and the fainter circle below is the region around Elysium Mons. Details: go.nasa.gov/3Uhjylf
