After 3 years of violent war against Ukraine and 25 years of increasing authoritarianism, it's time to finally ask: Is Russia fascist? ⬇️

👀 Ever wondered what it’s like to work in Parliament? This autumn, I’m giving young people from Stratford and Bow the chance to spend a day in Parliament - seeing my work up close, getting stuck into a project, and learning more about how change happens. 📩 Apply for my work

The idea that humans will always act rationally, that technology will always work perfectly and that miscalculations will always be avoided is one hell of an assumption….yet that flimsy & flawed notion underpins the whole argument of nuclear deterrence

🗣️ “If gambling firms can afford sky-high pay-outs and sponsorships, they can afford to help fund the war on child poverty.” - Gordon Brown for today's Guardian. Our latest report lays out exactly how to make gambling taxes fairer ippr.org/articles/refor… theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

Time to tax the highly profitable gambling industry to pay for action on child poverty. Gambling will not build a Britain for the future but children free of poverty will. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

Today, Gordon Brown has launched his campaign to tax online gambling to raise money to address the unacceptable levels of child poverty in the UK. I support this call and will be writing to the Chancellor to ask her to levy this tax in the Budget theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

Gordon is spot on - lifting 500,000 children out of poverty must be a national mission. The government has a real opportunity to act now and transform young lives across the country. Let’s get this done.

Louise Haigh (@louhaigh) 's Twitter Profile Photo

"The Conservative Party cultivated the myth that poverty is the fault of work-shy parents and a culture of dependency. Yet 70% of children in poverty live in families where someone is working but on pay too low to make ends meet." Gordon is absolutely spot on here

The Employment Rights Bill belongs to working people. It came from our movement, and now it’s Labour govt policy – shaped by unions and backed by millions across the country. ✊ We’re not stepping back. We’re keeping up the pressure until the #NewDeal is delivered in full

For Labour/political nerds, I recommend this podcast on each of the Labour leaders by Izzy Conn - it's very balanced and great range of interviewees

15 UK anti-poverty leaders have today published a joint letter saying “Getting rid of the two-child limit is the most cost-effective way to lift 350,000 kids out of poverty, while reducing the depth of poverty for 700,000 more.” gordonandsarahbrown.com/15-uk-anti-pov…

It’s very difficult to do books on TV but Between the Covers got it right. Just the sort of show the BBC should be doing. I know they’re short of funds but this is a real shame.

If the UK economy is continuing to grow then the argument for cutting disability benefits becomes weaker. Why should the poorest and most vulnerable in society lose out in a country that's doing well? That's not the Labour way, surely.

20 years ago, I called ARU during Clearing after getting my results- was nerve wracking to do as noone else in my family had gone to University. Best decision I made- academically and as a life experience- and it's helped me get to where I am.. which is back at ARU!
