Died #OTD 1805, Charles Cornwallis, 1st Marquess Cornwallis. MP for Eye 1760-1762, then succeeded to the Lords, he is well-known as an officer in the American War of Independence. It was his surrender at Yorktown in October 1781 which ended the war. ow.ly/bJyl50TEle5
