On January 4, 1942, Dr. Mathew Perry opened a school for Licensed Practical Nurses in Fayetteville for African Americans. It operated at least through 1950 and many graduates were hired by the federal hospital at Fort Bragg. Celebrate BlackHistory

In 1926 Dr. May Edward Chinn became the 1st Black woman to graduate from the University & Bellevue Hosp. Medical College. She practiced medicine in Harlem for 50 years. A tireless advocate for poor patients with advanced, often previously untreated diseases, she became a staunch.

In July 1959 Mary Tiller become the 1st Black American to represent a major airline as a hostess. Mary came across a hometown ad for a Hostess position with Travel World Airlines. She quietly applied for the position & she successfully passed her screenings.

Charles C. Rogers was a recipient of the highest military decoration in the US, the Medal of Honor, for his actions during the Vietnam War. A lieutenant colonel at the time, he became the highest-ranking Black soldier in the U.S. military to receive this honor.
