It's often said that Peter Sasdy's Taste the Blood of Dracula (1970) is Christopher Lee-lite. It is but that's not really a problem when there are so many great familiar faces filling out the cast (Linda Hayden, Roy Kinnear, Ralph Bates, Madeline Smith, et al). Ace prologue too

Here's a photograph that I took a few weeks ago of a once magnificent Weeping Willow tree that had just been severely pruned 😢. Presented here for #thicktrunktuesday #trees #TwitterNatureCommunity #naturephotography #photooftheday #ThePhotoHour #Treetime #TreeClub #TreePeople

Revisiting one Hammer horror film inevitably creates a need to revisit more. For me, Freddie Francis's 'Dracula Has Risen from the Grave' (1968) isn't the studio's best Dracula sequel but it works well enough. The show stars Christopher Lee and Veronica Carlson (who is very good)

Roy Ward Baker's Scars of Dracula (1970) might be Hammer's goriest Dracula sequel. Here Dracula is more talkative, crawls up and down his castle's exterior walls & is aided by highly sentient bats. The film stars Christopher Lee, Dennis Waterman, Jenny Hanley & Patrick Troughton

Terence Fisher's 'Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed' (1969) is surely Hammer's best realised Frankenstein sequel. Its narrative and production values are top notch while Peter Cushing is ice cold as the Baron. The rest of the cast (Veronica Carlson, Freddie Jones, et al) are superb

Jimmy Sangster's Frankenstein reboot for Hammer Films, 'The Horror of Frankenstein' (1970). Kate O'Mara and Jon Finch are both too good here to not receive pictorial recognition

My video essay Homelands: German Indianthusiasm and The Sons of Great Bear is included on Eureka Entertainment's Blu-ray of Josef Mach’s East German film The Sons of Great Bear (1966). The essay explores why German filmmakers consistently offered positive depictions of Native Americans

Having inadvertently revisited Veronica Carlson's 3 Hammer films in the space of a week I'm left lamenting the fact that she gave up acting in the mid-1970s. She really was a very good actress and was perfect for Dracula Has Risen from the Grave and Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed

Seth Holt's Blood from the Mummy's Tomb (1971) is a striking and original Hammer horror film that has managed to retain its sense of intrigue. It's based on a story by Bram Stoker and features a really good cast: Valerie Leon, Andrew Keir, James Villiers, George Coulouris, et al
