Wasn't aware China's ban on Korean concerts were *genre-specific*. Only Kpop shows were banned, while other genres (incl Korean hip-hop) was okay. After 16 yrs of criticising censorship as trade barrier, I might be warming up to Chinese practices. nbcnews.com/world/asia/k-p…

You’d have to be very German to think that U.S. could be tricked *again* into a zero-tariff agreement that would worsen their trade deficit and designed to exclude much of U.S. offensive interests. politico.eu/article/eus-ze… Camille Gijs

Singapore plays an important role in international affairs, not least by saying what should be pertinent and damn obvious, when other people’s minds are too muddled. Post-NPT/Ukraine/DPRK, anyone who’s not thinking nuclearisation is a liar, a relic or a fool.

The Indonesian animated film "Jumbo," which tells the story of a 10-year-old orphan who is bullied for his chubbiness and obsessed with a storybook left to him by his parents, has become a phenomenon in the country. The next challenge: succeeding abroad. s.nikkei.com/4mTlKME

The problem of transatlantic alliance is not just defence spending. It’s ultimately a question of diverging objectives. And even if they happen to align, a transatlantic consensus is neither the most effective nor obvious path towards those objectives.

You’ve not lived until you sat in a Beijing hipster bar playing a Chinese heavy metal version of the communist international at closing time and all the waitresses spontaneously sing a long. And the kid in Balenciaga translating for you turns out to be an editor at Global Times.

Fwiw, a ”golden share” usually does not entail gov to hold actual equity in the company, just a veto on strategic decisions. Either an uninformed journalist on how golden shares work - or a very well-informed journalist abt this particular deal. Guess what I’m betting.

Yu is a bright and thoughtful man, but I don’t get this, even argued as few like him in China would and do. Maybe, because stripped of politics, as it must be, the arg, also from a western view, is that investment (a derived demand) still merits a strong focus. But ….1/2

Western media, commentators ought to stop labelling Lee and DPK as “liberal” or “progressive”. “Leftist populist”, or “pro-DPRK” (as the party lacks any other defining agenda) would be a better fit in the spectrum.

G7 affirming Israel’s right to retaliate first. The post-NPT world is going to be unpleasant for Europeans who invoke principles and values.
