I was pleasantly surprised at my first time painting in VR. Vermillion has nice tutorials and allows you to paint on top of a reference image and vary the transparency up and down.

A quick video sharing my experiment this weekend.. Taking a 2D image (png), and using each pixel's lightness to compute a height value, generate a 3D mesh, then apply the original image on top as a texture.. then viewing the model in mixed reality on the Meta Quest headset. I
