Diva thought for the day: I tell my students that "trying" to accomplish something won't bring success. Change the term to "working" to accomplish it and watch good stuff happen! I hate the word "try" in most conversations or marketing, etc. Have a great day!

Diva tip for the day: Know & love thyself! Many wonderful talents throw it all away when they audition by trying to be what "they" want. Instead, have the courage to let them see who you truly are! Authenticity AND talent wins every time! Have the guts to be vulnerable?

Diva tip! Theatre/film is a team sport! If cast in a production, recognize that commitment to all rehearsals, pre-production and performances is your job! Don't be flaky and unreliable. A good work ethic is often preferred over talented narcissists. Show up for the team!

Diva Note: Good singing starts before the lyrics begin! No more cracking notes if your commitment to the whole phrase begins on inhalation. 100% breath flow begins on first note. Never "test the waters" with partial exhalation. Don't drive a car w/ both the gas & brake down.

Now is a great time to learn a new song! A new monologue from a role you've always wanted to do! Be your own entertainment while stuck at home. Performers never let a pandemic stop the show! I salute you all!

Hello singers! Here's a challenge! Take one of your favorite audition or performance pieces and speak the words extremely slow-syllable by syllable, even the diphthongs. Then sing the piece as 1. the opposite sex, 2. as an animal, 3. a 5 year old child, 4. an elderly person

Ok, I may be in tune with my inner child but I'm a convincing grownup and my age is an unlisted number. Wisdom and maturity came slowly for me. So how does this relate to VO? It is a vast accumulation of all my skills and life lessons. You might say puberty passed me by but....

I never wanted to shave my legs or wear high heels anyway! So, if you have a talent, experience, knowledge that can give your life meaning, do it! Don't wait to share what you can offer. VOs love the sound of our own voices because we meet so many new people!

Agents & casting directors are tough cookies to impress! At least the ones you want to work with are. Wanna be's think, "How hard can VO be? I could do it right now! I can read well, I'm a computer geek and can make funny voices. People love my voice, I'm already an actor!" ??

I was one of those wanna be's who didn't have a clue! I was great on camera but sucked on the radio advt. Getting fired was a wakeup call. Was I willing to coach with an expert? (My heroes!) Yes, and it felt like painful physical rehab sessions! Humbling and eye opening. Wow!

My biggest weakness is computer tech! Just installing the damn computer sent me to therapy! Tears, creative profanity & multiple head bumps on the corners of my desk! And those frigging wires and outlets! Learning a lot from peers, FB buddies and strangers!

Get out there and just do it! You want something, no one will simply give it to you. Feel the fear and anxiety & do it anyway. The worst that can happen is you pee your pants! That is survivable. Your dreams, opportunities and passions can be reality if you believe in them.
