It was great hosting Prof. Larry Snyder (Larry Snyder) of Lehigh University (Lehigh University) as part of our Rutgers ISE seminar series. Prof. Snyder toured our labs and facilities, and presented his exciting research about machine learning for optimizing inventory.

Twitter fired the entire ML Ethics, Transparency, and Accountability (META) team at Twitter. I don't know any of those folks personally but I follow many of them and am looking forward to finding them elsewhere. Mastodon? wired.com/story/twitter-…

In our Algs and Social Justice class we played the "Let's Bid" game by @DestenieNock. We used it to introduce the idea of optimization (in the context of electricity markets) and to discuss social justice aspects. It worked great. See Destenie's paper at tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.108…

"Supply chain optimization researchers have been arguing for years that we need to add slack back into the system," writes Lehigh ISE Dept Prof Larry Snyder. It’s possible to "add a lot of resilience into the system with a relatively little extra slack." ow.ly/mmVH50LORbi

Last week in our Algorithms and Social Justice class, we played a video game that our amazing TA Oumaima SOHAB built, based on @seanrsinclair et al.'s paper about efficient and fair allocation problems. Game, code, and a link to Sean's paper at github.com/LarrySnyder/AS…

Annaleigh Ashford might have stolen the show Sweeney Todd, but for us the true draw was L A D Y J E S S and the rest of the pit! (Actually, Annaleigh Ashford was truly amazing.)

OR/IE friends: Anyone interested (or know someone who might be interested) in teaching an upper-level undergraduate supply chain course at Lehigh U in Bethlehem, PA in spring 2024, as an adjunct? The course is heavily math/OR/optimization-based.
