For #ThrowbackThursday we are staying with the Lapal Tunnel on the Dudley No 2 canal. By 1957 this is what was left of tunnel and house. Today there's little trace. But there are plans afoot to reconnect and restore the canal thanks to Lapal Canal Trust lapalcanal.co.uk

Another rummage in the archives. We are wondering if this photo of the Lapal Tunnel is mislabelled? Someone things it's the eastern portal at the California end but is it actually the west instead? What do you think? Lapal Canal Trust BCN Society #ThrowbackThursday

Big thanks to UoB Conservation for help this morning in removing the last year’s growth on the path and the canal route in Harborne Wharf. Nice to see the path clear of Brambles. One of the self-seeded trees along the canal route was rescued and replanted.

Busy day at the Leasowes! Our volunteers are doing sterling work clearing and protecting the route for future renovation. We are busy discussing the work needed on getting this beautiful stretch of canal in water. Next work party planned for Saturday 5th of December at 10am.

Saturday was a beautiful day at the Leasowes and we were lucky with the weather. Good progress with clearing both ends, Roy and Tony with their shovels clearing the slipway and the rest of us busy clearing the self-seeded trees along the canal route.

With concern to keep our volunteers safe, the February Scrub Bash was postponed. But there was no stopping Peter, he checked with the park warden and police to make sure he was not breaking the rules - voluntary outdoor activity with social distancing is allowed.

Big thanks to yesterday’s volunteers at the Leasowes. Peter and his volunteers have over two winters cleared self-seeded trees from a 90-metre length of canal route (see pictures). It will save much larger costs later – a stitch in time saves nine.
