Cams are still down but here's a picture from our first nest family in February of 2015 when we had two adorable Great Horned Owl chicks. This was originally a Bald Eagle nest and the cams were installed (fall 2014) in hopes of watching eagles but the owls moved in first.

Next time you see the nest, you may notice that something is missing. The plant (pepperweed) is no longer in the middle of a potential nest bole. Plant lovers need not worry because it is going to be planted at ground level at its new home.

19:26 10/9 We're back and we've got Great Horned Owls!! (note: time stamp has been relocated so it won't interfere with the view of the owls)

FYI: you may have noticed that there is a problem watching our nest. The cam is not streaming. The cam host and others are working hard to restore the live stream. Thanks for your patience.

Serious problems, Savannah Nest Cams. To determine whether the issue is in the tree or in some piece of equipment on the ground, cam operators have substituted a different router, a new PoE injector, bypassed the gas discharge tube lightning arrestor and used new ethernet cables

The tests in the previous post indicate that nothing on the ground is defective, leaving just the camera itself in the tree, or the cable to the camera as possible culprits. For now we have to understand that we can't view the nest unless the camera is replaced.

The cam at our SavannahNest is down due to technical issues that our cam host is working on resolving. We'll share more when we have more information. Thanks for your patience!

This week in taxonomy, North America gets an American Goshawk, drops an Empidonax species, embraces Western Cattle Egrets & more. (Your eBird records may not be fully updated just yet, but the team is hard at work on those!) Read more: allaboutbirds.org/news/welcome-b…

We're sorry to share that technical challenges continue to keep the Savannah cams offline, & the issues will likely mean that we will not be streaming during the 2024 nesting season. We'll post an update if & when this situation changes or we get additional info from our partners
