Busy day of Peer to Peer Winlink Wednesday yesterday. Worked my regular ops (TangoOscarMike-N3WS, Matthew Foutch AE4JC, John, Scott Wallace, and #KK7IAA) and two new ops join in (one who likes anonymity and KD9RDO). KD9RDO and I worked 20m at dusk and 40m in the evening. Thanks to all!

Busted out the Buddipole 10m dipole this evening for preparation of the South America 10 Meter Contest starting tomorrow. Wheeling around the dial and scanning the waterfall brought two DX QSOs into Japan and Australia back to back. It is safe to say that 10m is open.

I experimented a little bit with a V and an inverted V configuration on the Buddipole this weekend. Had several family obligations but was still able to get on the air at times. The 10-meter band was definitely wide open during the day. Here is final map of QSOs made:

New Winlink program that shows recent Winlink connections on a map. See what connections are being made, across the US and across the globe. You can see the call signs on each end, and the they frequencies used. Named “Connection Monitor” in this zip: downloads.winlink.org/User%20Program…

While checking to see if the local 2m ARES Winlink RMS was back up and running (it wasn’t), I sent myself Peer to Peer Winlink messages back and forth from across the house on my 705 and 9700. So yes, you can send yourself P2P Winlink email messages. 🤣

Spoke with fellow Black Sheep Radio Club Black Sheep Radio Club member Matt VA7USD on 15m SSB today while he was slaying the WPX SSB Contest. Attempted QSOs with Malcom Malcolm Farrell (VY1FC)(VY1QDX)(VY1FBS) and Shoey Shoey but their antennas were too hot from all the DX they were crushing in the contest. Thanks, Matt!

I was able to get out to the French Legation Texas Historical Commission for lunch today. Worked 1 FM, 3 SSB, 5 FT8, 3 CW and 1 JS8. My JS8 contact was with Tom #N3WS TangoOscarMike-N3WS. First FT8 contact was with Gur #TA1GRH all the way into Turkey. Another win for QRP with 10 watts on the IC-705.

For the best computer time sync on the IC-705, use BktTimeSync and hook up to the radio’s GPS. Have not had one issue on syncing the ToughPad’s clock since I set this up. This computer has not been hooked to the internet in a year…only radio and satellites. #IC705 #BktTimeSync

Sending out weekly digital net check-ins to both Travis County ARES and South Texas ARES this morning via packet Winlink on the Kenwood TH-D72. The RMS server recently got the 9600 baud pipe back up and working. Crazy faster than the 1200 baud.

Enjoyable time camping with my son this weekend. Watched him improve on his outdoor skills and got to play some radio at night. Caught a +6 lb lunker with 4 lb test line. That was a slow and steady process. Lotta fun. Lotta fun.

A radio op, who is getting out of the hobby, sold me a #Chameleon CHA F-LOOP 3.0 MagLoop Antenna for half of what he paid new. Only used once. Works great on Winlink, WSJTX, and JS8Call indoors and outdoors. Will try CW and FLDIGI soon. Love the nulls and directionality of it.

Worked the Chameleon CHA F-LOOP 3.0 at The French Legation Texas Historical Commission for quick Parks on the Air, Inc. activation. Set up was rapid. Worked FT8 on 20m, 17m, 15m. Ton of RFI in Downtown Austin and the MagLoop is quietest antenna I’ve used. Directional pointing worked well with 1 DX on 10w
