Christmas cookies make for a great (well deserved) snack. But make sure your horse stays in shape/ready to compete this spring using aquatic therapy. Swimming provides a full workout (in a heated room!) allowing your horse to stay fit even with a few extra cookies for the holiday

Such sad news. Kudos to farrier Len Albright for speaking up and bringing the horse's condition to attention of owner. Can more be done to train stable staff to identify signs of laminitis in early stages, inspect feet daily, esp when recovering from injury?

Onyx, with a heartbreaking past, was abandoned due to severe neglect. Suffering from chronic laminitis, joint deformity, and osteoarthritis, his condition was worsened by poor hoof care. Now with us, Onyx is starting his journey to recovery, receiving the care he's always needed.

What's the saddest thing I can post? Death by #laminitis . Jess's Dream was just that: the product of breeding two Thoroughbred racehorses of the year: Rachel Alexandra to Curlin, both owned by Stonestreet. Please show this to all the people who think laminitis is "over".

The numbers game will make your head spin when it comes to PPID or "Cushings" disease in older horses. Many statistics are compiled on horses >15 years old but survey results released today looked at horses in the UK >20. Core conclusion: a great many horses have PPID. #laminitis

For all the horse owners who believe they could never have anything in common with the posh lawn #tennis set at Wimbledon , consider this story from our archives on the risks of lush spring grass...at center court back in 2013. hoofcare.blogspot.com/2013/06/lamini…

When #laminitis makes the news, there's rarely anything to smile about. This story of a top German dressage pony, who competed with huge success from age 3 to age 25 (and was *still* competing), is no exception: eurodressage.com/2024/07/03/lun…

Thinking today of the greatest racehorse of my lifetime. #Secretariat died on this day, way back in 1989, but #laminitis still matters and it still kills horses every day. Read about the day he died and how it was reported : hoofcare.blogspot.com/2011/10/secret…

Feel like we've been seeing this clip shared and reshared for a few years now. Its popularity is certainly from the way the two horses work together, but while it's funny, sure, it's not good for that pony's health. A good grazing muzzle can save lives!

When it comes to soaking feeds, it’s essential to remember to weigh them before adding water. The volume of most feeds will increase after soaking, making it easy to overestimate how much you’re actually feeding.

RIP Ferocious☄️ Talented, gorgeous & noble; Loved by your partners, we never got to see you fulfill your true potential. Sidelined due to a very unique foreleg injury suffered in his last race, along with a terrible cellulitis infection. Ultimately succumbing to Laminitis today.
