Can't overstate what a significant change that would be: Import duties can be anything from 20% all the way to *85%* of a vehicle's original price (src: autoauctionmall.com/learning-cente…). Waiving those taxes vastly broadens the selection of EVs that are within range of buyers' wallets!

Example. Without EV tax waiver: -- 2020 Merc C-Class: GHS 199k -- 2021 Tesla Model 3: GHS 310k Pretty clear decision. WITH EV tax waiver: -- 2020 Merc C-Class: same GHS 199k -- 2021 Tesla Model 3: GHS *208k*! Who buys a C-Class when a *newer* Tesla is a rounding error away?

If they do end up pulling this off -- maybe unlikely now since plans were published in Sept 2021 & the cedi dropped off a cliff in 2022 Q1 -- it could set the stage for interesting developments. All Ghana would need to do is figure out charging infrastructure and ... 🚀🚀🚀
