Sinn Féin pair call for resolution between DkIT and staff but Nash supports strike talkofthetown.ie/sinn-fein-pair… #dundalk #talkofthetown

Secured a debate in the Seanad tomorrow morning on why 99.1% of DkIT Teachers Union of Ireland Branch members at the Institute have voted to take industrial action next Tuesday, and how this dispute can & should be resolved. The debate can be followed at oireachtas.ie from approximately 10.45am.

Incisive commentary today Ged, absolutely on the money. The Minister did allude to the autonomy granted an Institute of Technology, therefore, DkIT's Governing Body has to be persuaded to listen to the institute's staff, students and wider stakeholders.

Huge thanks due to you Ged. From the get go, you supported this campaign and asserted loudly the right of a Trade Union to strike in support of the right thing. This successful outcome is now garnering many sponsors. But you were with us from the beginning

Pay Discrimination for new recruits was introduced unilaterally by the Government on the 1st January 2011. It effectively cut the pay of a newly appointed lecturer in an Institute of Technology by over €15,000 during the first 6 years of their career. #EqualPayNow

Politics usually involves compromise, which can often times look a bit off colour, but this is really, really grubby. Micheál Martin set to be next taoiseach under rotating deal - Varadkar (via The Irish Times) irishtimes.com/news/politics/…

Industrial action at DkIT. No resolution yet. Students still haven't got their results. DkIT president walks away from WRC talks.

The TUI is ready, willing & waiting to return to talks. We never walked away from the negotiating table. Unfortunately the DkIT President did, and is currently refusing to return to negotiations or honour the agreements he signed up to. We're ready to talk & resolve this issue.

The TUI that has been the champion of good governance in DkIT pver the last couple of years, which is just as well, for the sake of students, staff and this region

Staff are very grateful for the solidarity & support of DkIT Students' Union & the public representatives who showed their support particularly Ged Nash TD & @John_McGahon throughout the current dispute. Restoring good Governance & securing DkIT's future status is at the heart of this dispute

Pity you didn't listen to the TUI when they warned years ago about the wrong direction Dkit was taking, the institute would be in a TU now and wouldn't be playing catch up

Negotiating a deal bring the Ice Dome back into use as a resource for the community and a home for Irish Ice Hockey by partnering with the Irish Ice Hockey Association should have been done years ago. Sadly it's yet another missed opportunity in the current DkIT President's legacy of dereliction.

A lamentable state of affairs, long foreseen, long warned about, especially by the local TUI, but the President knew better, wasting time and opportunities, now the gap between the TUs and DkIT will grow, to Dundalk's disadvantage.

Negotiations between IoTs to agree merger deals started a decade ago with the members of what is now TUDublin. Others began shortly after. #DkIT was in advanced talks to align with the current members of the new Atlantic TU in 2017, & could today be a part of the new entity.
