This is where I began my journey. 3rd Ed. #dnd was so new and exciting to a lost teenage boy. Do you remember where your journey began?

I like the idea of ending at a fork in the road. Then players can choose their path forward and the DM can at least ATTEMPT to prepare for the next session.

Dear #Podcasters - 🎧 Please take a moment to self reflect as this. Are you more interested in the success of your podcast or the content you are producing on that podcast? I just endured 10 minutes of an episode about the #podcast before even touching on the topic. 🤦‍♂️

One-shot tip: Start with a bang! A dramatic event—like a heist gone wrong, a city under siege, or a mysterious letter—pulls your players in fast. Keep the momentum high.

When running a one-shot remember, Time is your enemy. ⏰ Keep the story tight by using clear objectives, 2-3 major scenes, and an explosive climax. Keep it short and satisfying.

Why do your one shot games usually suck? You over prepare. That’s it! Players will zig when you want them to zag. Build a flexible framework, know your NPC motivations, and let the table bring the chaos. 🌀

Perfect your one-shot with some of these elements: 1) A time limit (rescue the princess before dawn!), 2) A compelling twist (the princess is a dragon?!), 3) A unique setting (a city floating above molten lava).

One-shot magic happens when your NPCs stand out! Make them quirky, memorable, and just a little mysterious. The pirate with a heart of gold or a bard hiding a dark secret can get the players invested.

How to get your one-shot plot started? Start in medias res. The tavern’s already on fire, the treasure map is stolen, or the ritual is half-complete. Skip the setup—jump into the action!
