To the idea of personhood emerging from the impersonal, something like Aristotelian/Thomistic arguments for the immateriality of the intellect and Lewis’ argument against naturalism provide at least pause, if reasonably strong objections.

I am excited to present at the Philosophy of Mind in Medieval Islamic Thought conference at Cambridge University this weekend. I’ll share some exploratory reflections on how al-Rāzī’s account(s) of cognition can offer resources for thinking about AI. Let's see where this goes 😃

What are the key papers/books etc dealing with philosophy of mind and immateriality of the intellect which will help address questions raised by AI? Eg, what goes on the same curriculum as Ross’ Immaterial Aspects of Thought? Plz include links if possible

“The schematicism by which our understanding deals with the phenomenal world ... is a skill so deeply hidden in the human soul that we shall hardly guess the secret trick that Nature here employs.”

We are here, as allies and friends, for peace in Ukraine and in Europe. This is an important moment, as we continue to work on strong security guarantees for Ukraine and a lasting and durable peace.

Do you agree that, at the neural level, our sense of self is shaped by multiple competing or cooperating neural networks, acting like “micro-personalities” or “micro-egos”? Research in network neuroscience suggests our brain’s modular structure—think salience network, default

Newton’s thinking was deeply rooted in geometry. He expressed calculus as motions and rates of flowing quantities, unlike Leibniz who framed it as algebraic differentials.

Thank this man for digital communication, data compression (ZIP, MP3), coding theory, and cryptography. Claude Shannon’s biggest scientific contribution was the creation of information theory in his 1948 paper “A Mathematical Theory of Communication.” He defined “information”

To forgive does not mean to deny evil, but to prevent it from generating further evil. It is not to say that nothing has happened, but to do everything possible to ensure that resentment does not determine the future.

Pope Leo XIV (@pontifex) 's Twitter Profile Photo

When the light of forgiveness succeeds in filtering through the deepest crevices of the heart, we understand that it is never futile. Even if the other does not accept it, even if it seems to be in vain, forgiveness frees those who give it: it dispels resentment, it restores
