This week, we were proud to recognize 24 Reward Schools from KCS, and to celebrate our district’s progress as recognized by TN Dept of Education. Our teachers, students, and school staff have worked extremely hard, and it’s exciting to see their efforts pay off!

It was exciting to celebrate the KCS Teachers of the Year tonight! Congratulations to all the honorees, including district-wide winners Jessica Everitt, Natalie Elkins, and Logan Peterson!

Spring Break begins on Monday, March 11, and I hope our staff, students, and families enjoy the chance for some well-deserved rest and relaxation. We’ll be energized for a strong finish to the school year when students return to class on Monday, March 18!

We’re entering the home stretch of the school year, and I look forward to seeing KCS students excel in the weeks ahead!

It was exciting to attend this morning’s Region 5 Stakeholder Breakfast and hear about the good work happening in Region 5. Thanks to all the participants, including Leonard Weaver and Gaby Sanchez Benitez, the valedictorians of Austin-East HS and Fulton High School!

The KCS Recruitment Fair on April 6 and Community Budget Meeting on April 9 will help us continue our momentum in the 2024-25 school year. We’re committed to hiring and retaining talented educators, and to effectively using our financial resources to help students succeed!

I enjoyed attending the @hvahawks Future Teachers Signing Day ceremony this week. Congratulations to these HVA students and all the future teachers in the Class of 2024!

Our district is celebrating two arts-related milestones this month! Thank you to The Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation and CMA Foundation for your generous gift of musical instruments, and congratulations to the educators whose work is on display at UTK Galleries.

It was an honor to take part in the Complete Tennessee Leadership Institute’s panel discussion today on community partnerships for career advancement. I was excited to share the role the 865 Academies are playing in our work with education leaders across the state.

I was excited to help launch the One Book Read City campaign this morning at Lonsdale Elementary! Thanks to Glenn Jacobs, Knox Education Foundation, Knox County Public Library, and to the generous supporters who are providing every KCS elementary student with a copy of “Shelby & Watts: Tide Pool Troubles”!

Educators have an enormous impact on Knox County, and I’m proud of the remarkable teachers who work for our district. Thank you to all the KCS teachers who make a difference every day!

Registered Apprenticeships are a great option for many graduates, and it was exciting to celebrate Youth Apprenticeship Week with students from Halls High School this morning. Thanks to Glenn Jacobs, Apprenticeship TN, and our industry partners for their support of this model!

Graduation season has begun, and I'm proud of the Class of 2024 and all the students and educators who have achieved great things this year!

It was exciting to meet with the district’s talented school leaders as we kicked off the 2024 Principal Institute today! Thanks to our outstanding principals and AP’s, and to Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs, who received the district’s first-ever KCS Champion award.

It was great to be at Holston Middle School this week, and I was excited to visit with performing arts teacher Natalee Elkins, who is one of 9 finalists for Tennessee Teacher of the Year. We’ll be rooting for her as the competition continues!

In a rapidly changing economy, we know that students need strong digital skills for success after graduation. I was excited to talk about the district's work to foster STEM education during a visit today with Gov. Bill Lee and Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs at L&N STEM Academy.
