At the core of our profession should be the idea that instead of upholding the status quo our role is to actively dismantle the barriers our service users face

October is AAC awareness month so I thought I'd re-share the four Ps model we use to describe the different types of AAC at @barnsleyAT. I prefer these terms to 'low tech' and 'high tech' as they give equal value to all forms of AAC, which people might use alone or together.

Just watching Professor Steven Bloch 's Stephen Hawking 2022 lecture re: MND & communication. He mentioned Julie Liss - I looked her up and came across this story - it totally shook me 1/2

This story makes me reflect on the importance of using therapy sessions to have a functional impact on people's lives. eg, maybe in this scenario, training family/friends re: communication strategies could have been more productive? 2/2
