Serious post: Look after yourself this year. Doing ‘what’s best for the kids’ does not (and *must* not) necessitate the compromise of your health - mental and physical. It just isn’t worth it. *You* matter. Assert your boundaries unabashedly. You got this! #edutwitter

Some of my initial single word/single phrase responses to the scrapping of single word/single phrase Ofsted judgements on complex, whole school communities. ‘Enlightened’, ‘hopeful ’, ‘outstanding ‘, ‘they’ve woken up’, ‘at last’, ‘yippee!’

A lot of teachers stuck in toxic schools. We need: 1. Publication of retention data spanning 5 years 2. Anonymised exit interviews available to job applicants 3. Forget OFSTED - secret supply teachers 4. More open conversations about toxic schools What is a toxic school?

It’s a fact, all behaviour is communication. That means poor behaviour is a special educational need. So the more developed the SEN resources and provision a school is able to offer, the lower that school’s absenteeism and exclusions will be.

Why are so many ‘looked-after’ children in unregistered, unsafe & expensive children’s homes? One reason is Ofsted! You can’t operate a registered home without a Registered Manager (RI). But there aren’t enough RIs because of the unfair demands of the inspection process on them!

Think about all you’ve heard on Ofsted listening. On wellbeing. At Eldon primary, who bravely speak out here, a teacher fell to floor crying during recent inspection. Two left suicidal. As Paul Whiteman says “nothing less than a total reset is enough.” theguardian.com/education/2024…

As a society we have a responsibility to do more than ‘keep’ children in education by threatening them with sanctions. Instead our task is to develop a more inclusive, therapeutic approach which engages their imagination and so creates in them an insatiable appetite for learning.

A big part of trauma informed, responsive education is adopting a neuroscience based approach. This helps us view behaviour through a lens of understanding how the brain and body work. When we understand this,we understand our young people better.🧠🌱

In 2013, I wrote a book about educational myths. I *didn't* include learning styles. Why? Because even in 2013, so much research had already been published showing they were bunk. Didn't feel worth me going over it all again. It's now 2024. What's in The Economist ?

Worships at the alter of research yet dismisses research. Now you see the true colours of the research movement. Evidence/research informed *only* that which confirms a belief. That’s not research/evidence informed, that’s research/evidence (bias) confirmed.
