I’m on the hunt for garments in museum collections that are stained with (known or conjectured) menstrual blood (from any time/place) 🩸 Do you know of any?

The older I become, the more uneasy I get about Children in Need. Disabled kids shouldn’t be relying on a once a year pity party to gain access to services or live the life they deserve. Surely we’re past the point of disability being seen as either tragic or inspirational 🤷‍♂️

One of the outrageously important runic inscriptions on the Viking-style Galloway Hoard arm-rings, deposited c. AD 900. The kicker is that the runes are ANGLIAN, not Old Norse, likely made by an Anglo-Saxon Northumbrian. Images created from photo I took at Treasure Trove Unit viewing.

Yesterday saw a very rare event: the relics of Eanswythe of Folkestone, one of the earliest Anglo-Saxon saints, were translated into a new shrine. Her remains were hidden at the Reformation, rediscovered, and recently confirmed to date to the 7th century. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

A fragment of #Roman terracotta pottery, into the surface of which someone a incised a sketch portrait of a man, some 1900+ years ago - a very round-headed bald man, with a big nose & bushy eyebrows. This is one of my favourite pieces of ancient graffiti! #Archaeology

Wool has been central to Britain's economy for thousands of years. It is enshrined in our constitution. The Lord Speaker of the House of Lords sits on a (tarted up) sack of wool to this day. So this is sad in lots of ways to lots of people. What should we do about it?

The 9th century Warminster Jewel - an aestel (a manuscript pointer) from the time of King Alfred the Great of Wessex. Now part of the collections at Salisbury Museum, the jewel was found by a metal detectorist at Cley Hill, Warminster, in 1997. 📸 My own. #FindsFriday
