#transferlearning strategies have an effect size of 0.86! Here's a great video on moving students form surface to deep to transfer levels of learning: youtube.com/watch?v=iF9W8U… #Visiblelearning #surfacedeeptransfer

I made this towards the end of our topic on quadrilaterals (and they had previously done circles). Pupils always need more practice of working backwards, and this worked well: the difficulty ramps up nicely. Worksheet with answers is at tes.com/resource-detai…

My favorite slide from one of my favorite talks at NCTM. One of the biggest challenges facing math teachers (whether they know it or not!) is turning wrong answers into learning. Behold! The Super Wrong, Kinda Right continuum. /by Samuel Otten docs.google.com/presentation/d…

In a series of experiments on second language learning, retrieval practice was more effective than restudy, and both were more effective when the content was varied, rather than constant, though learners thought they learned more with constant examples: bit.ly/40wB49o.

Too many students feel bored at school, seeing little connection between their learning and our ever-changing world. Teachers have specified learning standards. What’s the solution? This transformative question frame has been a game changer for us this year. Try it out!

Science of Reading - Secondary Level Teaching morphology at the secondary level in the content areas is one action that would probably get buy in from secondary teachers. Where do you start? I would think of morphology by topic area. In NYS, 8th graders learn about WWII.

Alberta Teachers: grade 8 SS - 1st have students compare and contract Mayan and Aztec terms, revising this chart to represent the Aztecs. Next, have them develop their own chart to represent vocabulary for Japan & isolationism or the Renaissance & expansionism. Thanks Sean Morrisey

About 8 years ago, Siobhan Leahy and I prepared a Quick Reference Guide for Embedding Formative Assessment. It's now out of print, so the copyright has reverted to us, and we are free to share it with anyone who wants it: bit.ly/EFAQRG (pdf).

In T LambHeartTea (she/her)'s class, assessments are an opportunity for her to understand S learning. They're also a chance for Ss to reflect on the strategies and practices that worked for them! Download the exam wrapper here: docs.google.com/file/d/17UH7Xp…
