As we approach VE Day I thought to share this cutting I found in my Grandmothers diaries. ESF Fegen was awarded the Victoria Cross for giving his life to save the many ships it was his duty to protect. He was also remembered in Sir W Churchills 1945 speech ‘Five years of War’

Newent Commemorates VE80

VE80 @Newent recognising the importance commemorating 80th anniversary of the end of war in Europe. Organisations coming 2gether made the day super special as did meeting those attending the day centre singing I vow to thee my Country, the National Anthem & observed 2mins silence

A three and half mile walk to Pan Tod Beacon 290m high. A statue of a crouching Miner a memorial for those who died in accidents. There is a dial on the Miners back that shows directions & distances to nearby features. Plenty of space to have a picnic.
