Even the most effective gamification and incentives cannot compensate for mediocre service, value or product, nor can they redress a relationship based on flawed principles

"Let’s add incentives and we’ll get users, community, and PMF." But everyone forgot Mahalo vs Quora. Mahalo paid users and became a content farm. Quora paid nothing and built a community. Mahalo died. Quora thrived. Incentives can’t fix what product & purpose don’t deliver.

it's pretty bad. some founders did it and regretted it. buying fake engagement solves nothing, and the cost adds up fast. maybe they lacked real users or product-market fit. it usually means they're covering something up and that sends all the bad signals

a bad product don't retain points/quests don't fix a bad product -> points don't fix retention CAC means nothing without retention -> airdrops are bad for most projects

behavioral economics shows that most pick 100% chance of $500 over 50% chance of $1,000 in losses, it flips. they become risk seekers preferring 50% chance of -$1K over 100% chance of -$500 thus, with death as the max loss, life is about purposeful risks founder mode
