Celebrating Norway’s constitution day in the field🥳🎉 however, I am concerned as I keep finding nests with plastic as nest material

If you have too much free time, I can recommend taking a M.Sc. on cheating house sparrows! Lots of fun! Thanks to all of my supervisors for two amazing years at CBD, and to Jane and David for outstanding input and comments during the discussion yesterday!

Moving into the last phase of the breeding season. Low breeding synchrony and nestling survival, unfortunately. However, 165 great tits, 182 blue tits and 36 coal tits have fledged from the ~150 nestboxes so far! Soon, the first pied flycatchers will fledge! Looking forward to it

So fun being back in the field, now on house sparrows in Åfjord, to help with some really cool testing of producer-scrounger behaviour. Also had the pleasure of meeting this guy (?), which is still going on since we captured it last year! CdeGroot @RoriWijnhorst

Pleased to share our new paper on extra-pair paternity (EPP) and paternal care in birds in Behavioral Ecology! We find a negative association between EPP and paternal care when comparing bird species. Check it out! Jon Wright Fredrik Hanslin and Michael L. Pepke academic.oup.com/beheco/advance…

Big fun at #BES2023 presenting some work on extra-pair paternity and paternal care in birds I did while at CBD at NTNU. I only got to share one slide, but at least CBD House Sparrow Project got represented on this first (and last) slide!

At my nest-box study system in mid-Norway, the non-profit project CEO (i.e. my father) can report on the first eggs of both great tit and blue tit on April 18th. This is the earliest laying date in this system since we stared in 2018.

New paper out in Ecology and Evolution led by Peter Sjolte Ranke. Here we go through the long-distance dispersal events in the house sparrow, which is known for being highly sedentary, and discuss their potential impact! CBD House Sparrow Project Michael L. Pepke doi.org/10.1002/ece3.1…

A few days with constructive meetings regarding my thesis together with Yimen Araya and Bernt-Erik Sæther was topped with a excellent EGI-seminar from Yimen on the effect of stochasticity on evolutionary change. Big thanks to all! Gjærevoll Centre - Biodiversity Foresight Analyses CBD House Sparrow Project
