New from the Congressional Budget Office: Not extending enhanced ACA premium assistance beyond 2025 would ultimately lead to 3.8 million more people uninsured.

Kansans rely on rural hospitals to get the care they need close to home, but 63% of our rural hospitals are vulnerable to closing their doors. That's why we must take the next step to support these hospitals by finally expanding Medicaid.

Thanks to years of careful budgeting, we have paid down debt, including over $2.1B in early debt retirement. This fiscal responsibility has allowed us to fully fund our schools, improve infrastructure, and grow our rainy day fund — all while cutting taxes for Kansans.

New blog from Edwin Park and me; these cuts are not inevitable as House margin is so tight. Medicaid is very much at risk, however. House Republicans Actively Considering Deep and Damaging Cuts to Medicaid ccf.georgetown.edu/2025/01/09/hou… via Georgetown Center for Children and Families

There's talk in Congress of capping federal spending on Medicaid. Over time, Medicaid spending per enrollee has grown slower than both private insurance and Medicare.

Kansas can be the best place to live and raise a child. To achieve this goal, we need to make government work better and establish the office of early childhood. We also need to continue to invest in the child care system. Yes, we KAN. #ksleg

#ksleg and Governor Kelly can work together to make sure no Kansas kid goes hungry. We can get there by supporting Governor Kelly’s budget which proposes providing free schools meals to any child who qualifies for reduced-price school meals.

The only reason #ksleg has not expanded Medicaid is politics. We need to bring hundreds of millions a of dollars back to Kansas to improve access to care, create jobs and protect hospitals. Lets’s go.

From Ray Hanley: As a former AR Medicaid director under three governors, I am greatly concerned about the damage that Congress may unwittingly inflict on states, their health systems and state budgets--especially in the rural heartland. #arpx #Medicaid arkansasonline.com/news/2025/jan/…

Zac Petkanas Norman Ornstein Guess I see the challenge differently. Trump is flooding the zone with stuff like this, and we need to keep up. The important thing is not to get distracted by everything that gets a tickle on social media. As I wrote on inauguration day: washingtonpost.com/opinions/2025/…

I am hearing numerous reports that states are LOCKED OUT OF THEIR MEDICAID ACCOUNTS. This is a major crisis. Many states draw down funding at the end of the month i.e. this week.

David Jordan (@jordandavidj) 's Twitter Profile Photo

I just contacted Senator Jerry Moran about the freeze in funding and the staffer assured me it was perfectly normal. There is nothing normal about freezing Medicaid dollars that rural hospitals depend on and stopping funding to Head Start programs. The Senate needs to use its power.

David Jordan (@jordandavidj) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Many rural hospitals have less than 30 days cash on hand. If Medicaid payments are delayed because dollars are not flowing to states we could see rural hospitals close.

OMB sent out a memo in the last hour stipulating that the cuts don't affect Medicaid or SNAP (see Jeff Stein's feed) Love to have an administration where everyone is on the same page
