I’ve been raising this matter for 18 months, the situation was untenable. Recently we learned no power to suspend an Ombudsman exists nor apparently does a misconduct code. Aside from the case in hand, there needs to be a review of governance & reflection on political leadership.

I took contrary position today. Current model allows flexible approach that prioritises diversion, but serious cases can still be dealt with. It was confirmed if the age was raised to 14, a 13 yr old rapist couldn’t be arrested/investigated & the victim would have to accept that!
