A sight most don't see every day: a Venus Flytrap in its native habitat. Their global distribution is restricted to SE North Carolina and far NE South Carolina. The species is threatened with extinction in the wild due to development, poaching pressure, and fire suppression.

Tristan Albatross displaying on Gough Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site roughly equidistant from Antarctica, South Africa, and Brazil. This albatross is Critically Endangered mainly due to predatory mice, but also bycatch from long-liner fisheries.

In 2019 I wrote in Conservation Biology in Sub-Saharan Africa that scientists predicted Africa will be 0.5°C warmer by 2050 compared to 20th century. I just noticed on ncei.noaa.gov/access/monitor… that the last time Ts were under 0.5°C higher was the year 2000! 2023 was 1.41°C above average! #climatecrisis
