This idea that “NATO moved east” is absolute rubbish. Poland, Latvia, Lithuania etc joined NATO because they were afraid that Russia would do to them exactly what it has done to Ukraine. They were 100% right to join.

John Fitzgerald follows up on his article with a Newstalk Breakfast interview. He mentions conventional 1GW reactors are too large for Ireland but is this the case? Take Finland for example, a similar population with 35% nuclear from 5 ~1GW reactors and with much cheaper electricity.

Nobody "hid" smear results from women. 🤦‍♂️ Interval cancers, which did happen, occur in all screening programmes worldwide, including some women later dying despite negative tests. I'll go through what did happen, if interested, given the volume of misinformation this week. /1

Congratulations to those responsible for Irish energy policy. Ireland now has the highest consumer electricity prices in Europe. The Eamon Ryan/Green Party Cult solution to this is to build subsidised solar plants of Chinese technology and panels rather than develop more domestic

Yes, French nuke is flexible (PWRs are). The real issue is WHY TF does France have to modulate its NPPs to “make space” for renewables that cost more and are more carbon intensive. To save 1 €c worth of U fuel? Ok, they installed RES and they need to put them to use, BUT… 1/2

1/7 People often don’t grasp the scale of the war in Ukraine—especially when comparing it to Gaza. This isn’t a moral comparison. It’s about understanding the sheer magnitude of Ukraine’s suffering and displacement

“I don’t much want Ireland to have a king. But I wonder if I would prefer that over having an elected head of state who acts like one anyway”. Excellent article on why our presidents should be constitutional not activist. irishtimes.com/opinion/2025/0…

Happy to collect taxes from MNCs but then complains about having to build infrastructure to support them. Our politicians really need to start owning our own problems.

Why are points so low for Computer Science in Ireland? Why don’t our brightest kids do Computer Science or Electronics & Computing? We need comp science in secondary schools and much improvement in our career guidance in this regard.

An amazingly bad take from a “Professor of Political Economy” arguing that people should not be well paid?? Why is he not encouraging more Irish kids to study computer science & electronics so that more could participate in this part of the economy?

Sweden building nuclear capacity of 1500mw via 5 SMRs because: "...a growing share of weather-dependent renewables has led to price volatility, imbalances and a lack of available grid capacity." This is exactly what Ireland now has and we have no plan to fix it.

Within the next 50 years humans in developed countries will be banned from driving on public roads. We’re just too bad at it:

Yemen is a country with 54% literacy and a $530 per capita GDP where 33% of people have access to indoor plumbing, and meanwhile they use their meager resources firing ballistic missiles at a country 2000km away
