Yesterday, City of Austin leaders extended their 8/15 disaster declaration for another 4 months due to ongoing wildfire risk in our region. You can stay aware of ANY potential risk in your neighborhood by signing up for alerts from @warncentraltexas, a free service of @CAPCOG.

We've mentioned the importance of packing a "Go" bag now so that you're ready in the event you have to evacuate. But what to put in that bag? A good rule of thumb is to follow the 5 "P's". Learn more at ready.gov/kit

Last month, Texas A&M Forest Service raised our wildfire preparedness to Level 4. This holiday weekend, remember: dispose of smoking materials properly; secure tire chains so they don’t drag; and park cars on pavement, not grass. As Smokey Bear says, "Only you can prevent wildfires."

We spent this a.m. with our partners at H-E-B for the 18th Annual #HelpingHeroes campaign honoring first responders across TX in memory of 9/11. HEB provided lunch, dinner items, did service projects, and learned some life and fire-safety skills! bit.ly/3RhCShJ 📷© AFD

It was such an honor to read to the kids at Bear Creek Elementary with Lyzz, and for such a great cause. Looking forward to seeing this program grow and reading to more AISD students!
