Everyone should read this! “The point to be made...is that education at all levels has never come to terms with the imperial xenophobia, arrogance and ignorance that continues to be demonstrated before and after the Brexit vote”

After being involved in two (count em!) Impact Case Studies, thought this might be a good idea. Pleased to be able to collaborate with @HistorianCrime. Will be of interest to Music, Humanities and Media at Huddersfield and @mcphh_mmu but please RT widely.

The Royal Historical Society is appalled today to see our colleague, Fellow, and Vice President @OlivetteOtele subjected to racist hate mail. This underscores the need to deepen our commitment to addressing the inequalities which foster such vile, unacceptable attitudes.

People like to think that things like the Coronavirus are man made because it’s more comforting than the realisation that even the most powerful people in the world can’t control everything.

Why have a new race inquiry and head it with someone who does not believe in institutional racism? As if that’s something you can choose to believe in. Race inquiries since the 80s have consistently found that institutional racism is at the core of the problem!

Long shot but please PM me if you have a copy of Beryl Gilroy’s book, ‘Black Teacher’, that I could borrow via post before the coming Wednesday. I’ll pay any postage fees, and have it back ASAP.

Things are tough out there for the humanities and colleagues in the field. So when some good news comes along we need to take the opportunity to celebrate it. We are delighted to congratulate newly minted Professor Professor Sarah Bastow + Reader Rob Ellis. Well deserved! Centre for History, Culture and Memory
