English National Opera Chair Harry Brunjes in The New Statesman states he had 24 hours notice of complete withdrawal of Arts Council England #NPO funding. And that they have 5 months left in London Coliseum. Was this a last minute decision by Arts Council England? I just can’t understand how this happens #LoveENO

Went to English National Opera last night. Full house. Reasonably priced (by West End standards). Didn't know ENO gives out 10s of thousands of free seats to under 21s. It one of the most accessible (& non-eletist) opera companies on the planet. And it has just lost ALL of its funding.

Still on a high from our wonderful concert sponsored by Hattingley Valley of Brahms’ Requiem featuring @ElladeJongh and Joe Chalmers We had a fabulous time and judging by this video from pianist Valentina Seferinova so did our lovely audience! youtu.be/aPlIUSqtuoM 🎶🍷🎶

Pleased to have secured a debate next Weds on ACE's funding decisions. With English National Opera making clear it can't survive, and Glyndebourne axing its tour, the damage is clear. Greater scrutiny needed on how these decisions were made & the approach toward the performing arts generally.

Here’s a stat for you. There are only an estimated 175 singers in employed salaried jobs in the U.K. Around 50 of those jobs are currently at risk at BBC Singers and English National Opera alone. Apparently isolated decisions that could have enormous repercussions for a profession.

Rebecca Frecknall's interview in The Stage has prompted me to break out a thread I have sat on for a while. It breaks down what I think is the biggest obstacle in theatre but the least openly discussed... Pay So here is the THEATRE PAY MATHS THREAD 🧵👇 thestage.co.uk/news/rebecca-f…

Members at English National Opera have learned that the company plans to axe 19 posts & employ the remaining musicians on part time contracts The union plans to reject the proposals & fight to keep our members at English National Opera in full time jobs, on full time pay bit.ly/401jKHi
