The dream lives on, Ireland fans. Head off to the leaba imagining being right here next June. But please ignore construction/transit hellscape and focus on the sky and lights.

Eeesh. Best-laid plans and all that. Ali Ahmed, who'd joined Jesse Marsch at Wednesday's pre-match presser as the coach spoke at length about Ahmed's importance, is sent off just five minutes in against Ecuador after a rash, raking high foot. Yet, feels maybe harsh? Big task now.

Jesse Marsch has been effusive in his praise of Richie Laryea's ability to play and contribute in any position. We're about to see if he can be both left back and left wing at the same time. His burst to tee up what should have been the opener for Tani Oluwaseyi suggests yes.

The early Ahmed red (definitely harsh) changed the trajectory of this as a preparation exercise but Marsch has to be content with how Canada have adapted here. Bar one Valencia turn of Kamal Miller, his 10 men have contained Ecuador quite well and created better openings.

Richie Laryea is, once more, doing international relations with our South American counterparts plenty of damage while sending Canadian spirits soaring. Another remarkable Laryea shift being put in out there.

An awful ball from O’Brien to Coleman which went straight out of play ended Ireland’s best spell of possession and, in pretty much the next phase of play, Varga hits a beauty. Great strike but we did ourselves no favours.

Ireland now needing to score 3 goals to pull this off adds to scale of the task. Haven’t done so for over two years, 21 games ago, inevitably against Gibraltar.

At 95:01, Parrot is all the way out on the byline pressuring the clearance. At 95:11 he scores the winner. Absolutely incredible.

Scalesy man. He delayed just a half second before making the run in on top of Varga and Willi Orbán and just wouldn't be denied. What a hero.

Johnny Kenny bursting his bollocks to pressure and panic the Hungarian clearance too — Shligo shtyle. It all plays a part.

Instinctively sprinting to ring the bell before crawling through the bar to join the pile-on. You have to say that's magnificent...
